Cold4ged

Conor Forkan, yes, that’s my real name.

The concept for Forkanife came from lunch with a friend who carried her own bamboo cutlery everywhere to avoid using plastic utensils.  A great idea for anyone who has the space.  (In fact, I always say, the best cutlery is to bring your own from home and NOT buy anything new.)  Unlike my friend, I don’t carry a bag and really have no room for traditional cutlery everywhere I go.  The goal of Forkanife was to give people an innovative, practical option for cutlery that you can always carry with you, no excuses.  I keep mine in my phone case, I don’t even carry a wallet.  With 20+ years in product development, I love cool gadgets and clean design. When you break out your Forkanife, you’re showing a bit of who you are.  A conscious citizen, who appreciates design and quality.

At cold4ged we have a small but very experienced team in product development and sustainability and we work with other large companies on sustainable product solutions.

The problem with plastic cutlery will be obvious to anyone who would come to this site. If you didn’t care about the environment, you wouldn’t be reading this. The bulk of the materials in Forkanife are already recycled and the stainless steel in particular is a valuable material for recycling. If you are getting a replacement as part of our 100% guarantee, you can return the stainless steel to us for recycling if you don’t have a local option. One question we get often is why the need for compact cutlery when many countries are switching to compostable plastics? The big problem right now with compostable plastics is that very few municipal compost facilities accept or process them. In a landfill without oxygen, they take a long time to decompose and are nearly as damaging to the environment as regular plastic. Unless you have a home compost and time or a Lomi, it is very difficult to get a graceful end of life from bioplastic utensils.
